The 2018 Hyundai Tucson earns safety awards from the IIHS & NHTSA

The 2018 Hyundai Tucson is our most well-stocked crossover here at Hyundai of Moreno Valley. Slotted between the Hyundai Kona and the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Tucson offers a unique size that's not too small or too large. It also has a long list of standard and available amenities that helps owners feel pampered.

There's so much we could talk about with the Tucson — its engine lineup and convenience features — but today we want to focus on the safety awards this crossover has earned. It's gotten strong marks from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The IIHS a very rigorous safety inspection organization, and they're known for making their tests harder and harder every year. They test on the following areas:

  • Small front overlap test (both driver-side and passenger-side)
  • Moderate overlap front
  • Side
  • Roof strength
  • Head restraints & seats

They also check for crash avoidance and mitigation technology, which includes front crash prevention and headlight strength. Lastly, they see how easy it is to use the LATCH child seats. Scores are Poor, Marginal, Acceptable, and Good.

The Tucson scored the highest Good on all tests, except for the Headlights and LATCH seats where they still earned a solid Acceptable.

When equipped with the optional automatic emergency braking and HID dynamic bending lights, the Tucson was able to earn an IIHS Top Safety Pick title! These advanced safety technologies are available in a package for the top-level Limited trim.

The NHTSA also got to check out the 2018 Hyundai Tucson. They put vehicles through the following tests — Frontal Crash, Side Crash, and Rollover — and within most sections there are a few tests that look at how the driver, side, and rear passengers fair.

The Tucson earned 5-Stars on all but two of the individual tests, and the model was able to drive away with a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating! This applies to all trims.

To take home a crossover that is both attractive and safe, come into our dealership this week!
