Hyundai Education Initiative Helps Prepare Kids for the Future

Hyundai is partnered with the University of Southern California (USC) to support various educational programs on the campus and throughout the communities as part of the manufacturer’s commitment to giving back through various initiatives. The two organizations have developed the Joint Educational Project (JEP) for elementary students interested in STEM.

What the Program Does

Hyundai is hosting its Hydrogen STEM Program for the second time on the campus of the University of Southern California. The program is designed for elementary students in the South Los Angeles area and provides much-needed hands-on experience. Hyundai has donated $200,000 since 2022 to support JEP with USC in the STEM programs. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

USC JEP introduces STEM programs to elementary students, helping them discover an interest in these areas. It also helps college students who have an interest in attaining one of these degrees. The programs provide an opportunity for career exploration as it connects students in undergraduate and graduate programs with employees from Hyundai.

How the Program Works

JEP uses an inquiry-based approach, which allows students to see laboratory experiments come to life. One such program is the Young Scientists Program (YSP), which acts as a supplement to the science curriculum in LA schools. YSP recruits teaching assistants who are students at USC to work in the classrooms. Their goal is to promote interest in science-based careers by strengthening science skills.

Part of the YSP program includes the Hyundai Hydrogen STEM Program. The event is held on campus with students working to build and race hydrogen-powered cars. The workshop teaches kids about clean energy and sustainability for automobiles.

JEP helps undergraduate and graduate students develop their careers while supporting elementary schools with hands-on science projects. This program encourages interest in STEM careers from an early age, helping kids know what they need to learn to pursue a career in this area in the future.

Hyundai Programs

Hyundai has partnered with other organizations to help students build their careers. For instance, the auto manufacturer developed a collaboration with USC Wrigley Institute for Environment and Sustainability. Together, they held a Career Trek Program for college students. In this program, employees of Hyundai spoke of their career journeys with a focus on corporate social responsibility and sustainability. At the end of the program, students had a walkaround of the IONIQ 9, which is the first electric three-row SUV.

These programs from Hyundai are part of the Hyundai Hope, which is an initiative on corporate social responsibility. This initiative provides educational opportunities that are both innovative and rewarding to help students reach their full potential.
